The Istanbul Gold Exchange (IAB) consultant, Ramazan Santo said that, "Conflict diamonds could enter Turkey easily even in matchboxes. However, thanks to the Kimberley Process Certificate, the entrance of conflict diamonds to Turkey is forbidden now." Chairman of the Istanbul Gold Exchange (IAB), Osman Sarac, mentioned that that his organization will monitor the importation and exportation of rough diamonds.
Turkey is now amongst the 46 other member countries of the Kimberley Process, after it was included in the member list on August 14. The country has decided to ban importation of conflict diamonds.
