Saks Inc. was happy with its jewellery sales in January 2008, as it noted its group comparable sales increase by 4.1 percent as compared to last year. Saks said that the challenging overall global scenario and the resultant stiff competitive environment, has prompted customers to depend on promotional events for shopping. The approaching Valentine day could vouch for a promotional event.%%However, Saks’s cumulative sales, jewellery being a part, weakened by 15.7 percent in January as compared to last year. Saks said that last year there were five weeks in January to generate sales, whereas this year there were only four ending February 2, 2008. Sales in last year January were $225.8 million, while in January 2008 they amounted to $190.3 million. While its overall sales may have declined, the approaching Valentine day could spell additional sales.
