The partnership was marked by a hybrid masterclass, “Introduction to Rhodochrosite”, celebrating Argentina’s national gemstone, known globally for its rarity and cultural value.

Led by IIG CEO & MD Rahul Desai, the initiative underscores the institute’s commitment to delivering expertise-driven education that bridges global knowledge gaps in gemology. The session opened with a welcome address by IIG COO and Head of Department, Gunjan Sapra, who highlighted opportunities for student exchanges, mine visits, and collaborative research, enabling students to trace gemstones from their natural origins to global markets.

The event drew participation from key dignitaries, including Consul General Daniel Quer Confalonieri, Deputy Consul María Virginia Yapur, and CAMYEN’s Board of Directors — Hugo Moya (President), José Barrera (Vice President), and Gabriel Molina (Member). From Argentina, CAMYEN experts Marina Corvalán (Geology) and Jessica Felsztyna (Marketing) delivered insights on the geology, mining, and commercialization of Rhodochrosite from the renowned Minas Capillitas mines, engaging students both on campus in Mumbai and virtually worldwide.

Rahul Desai emphasized the broader vision behind the initiative, stating, “Across the world, there is still a gap in how gemological education is delivered. Real learning cannot come from quick searches; it must be imparted with expertise, experience, and context. At IIG, we are creating that platform and scaling it globally. Our collaboration with Argentina is a living example of cross-border education, proving that diverse perspectives and shared expertise are essential for shaping the future of the gem and jewellery industry.”

The collaboration also reflects strengthening India–Argentina relations, particularly as Indian investments in Catamarca province — home to lithium, copper, and Rhodochrosite resources — gain momentum. Rising Rhodochrosite exports to India further align with the training initiative, opening new opportunities for the gemstone in the Indian market.

Consul General Confalonieri noted, “Education is the strongest bridge between nations. This collaboration with IIG not only highlights Argentina’s rich gemstone heritage but also creates a channel for knowledge exchange that benefits students in both our countries. We are proud to contribute to IIG’s vision and to see Rhodochrosite becoming part of their specimen library as a symbol of this partnership.”

In a symbolic gesture, CAMYEN and the Argentine Consulate donated three kilograms of Rhodochrosite to IIG’s Specimen Library. The gemstone will serve as a permanent educational resource, deepening student engagement with Argentina’s mineral heritage.

This milestone strengthens IIG’s position as a global leader in gem and jewellery education, uniting expertise from India and Argentina while promoting sustainable practices and responsible mining. With such international collaborations, IIG continues to shape the next generation of jewellery professionals and advance knowledge without borders.
