The gem and jewellery fraternity mourns the loss of Dr. Rajnikant R. Shah, a man whose life embodied integrity, vision, and service.
Born on November 22, 1935, in Dhanera, Gujarat, Dr. Rajnikant R. Shah began his career as a medical doctor before destiny led him into the gemstone trade.
In 1976, after moving to New York, he became a pioneering supplier of emerald rough, sourcing directly from Brazil and supplying it constantly to Jaipur traders for over two decades. His transparent and ethical approach brought authenticity, standardization, and fairness to the gemstone industry, earning him the trust of an entire generation of dealers.
Beyond trade, Dr. Shah’s philanthropy was profound. He played a key role in building the Jain Centre in New York, a unique temple uniting five traditions, and later founded the Gem Museum in Jaipur, a living legacy for future generations. His vast collection of gemstone stamps and literary works further reflected his diverse passions.
Dr. Shah consistently declined awards and honors, believing that integrity itself was the truest recognition. In the world of gemstones, he was himself a rare gem — priceless, unique, and unforgettable.
