Alrosa is keen to expand its share in the world’s diamond resources at an investment of 2.9 billion rubles ($122.8 million), and pay particular emphasis to own African resources. Alrosa president Sergei Vybornov said that the money will be employed in diamond prospecting and exploration which can support Russia’s stand as the leader in diamond reserves. %% For the year 2007, Alrosa has undertaken exploration in four Russian territories and in Angola. Alrosa focused exploration in western Yakutia and is in the fray to expand in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Namibia, as talks were on with their political leaders. The company also established a new Arctic geological exploration division in 2008. Alrosa’s interest in Africa spans across diamonds, electric power generation, oil and gas prospecting and production, and construction.
