The new year has begun with silver prices reaching record highs. It reached a peak of Rs 46,930 per kg rising by Rs. 180, followed by enthusiastic buying by stockists as silver climbed to a 30-year high in global markets. Silver weekly-based delivery increased by Rs 170 to Rs 46,450 per kg. %% In the overseas market, silver prices reached a 30-year high and traded above USD 31.00 an ounce. The hike in prices was also boosted by the increased offtake by industrial units and coins manufacturers. %% Silver coin trading saw buying rise by Rs 300 to Rs 50,500 and to Rs 50,600 for selling of 100 pieces. %% Gold prices in the domestic market also shot up, with gold of 99.9 purity rose Rs 20 to Rs 20,980 per 10 grams and that of 99.5 per cent purity was up by Rs 20 to Rs 20,860 per 10 grams. Sovereign was bought at previous level of Rs 16,900 per piece of eight grams.
