Eastern Zimbabwe has been in the news recently, as several police officers were arrested the Chiadzwa diamond fields, after being accused of accepting bribes to allow illegal miners to continue panning. The fields were mandated to be closed as per government orders, but some policemen did’nt pay heed to stop the illegal panning and accepted bribes worth $4,000 and $8,000. The Chiadzwa diamond fields have witnessed a huge diamond rush last year.
In order to curb inflation which is over 7,600% presently, President Robert Mugabe announced a freeze on wages, rents and fees for the next six months.
