India’s gross gem and jewellery exports increased 3.14% year-on-year in August 2026 to dollar 2.30 billion, compared with dollar 2.23 billion in August 2025, according to data from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). In rupee terms, exports rose 12.52% to rupees 21,945.87 crore.

Studded gold jewellery emerged as a key growth segment, with exports rising 51.22% to dollar 642.85 million from dollar 425 million a year earlier. Overall gold jewellery exports, including plain and studded pieces, increased 11.81% to dollar 999.83 million, supported by demand from the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and France.

The growth in studded jewellery contrasted with a 23.90% decline in plain gold jewellery exports to dollar 356.97 million, amid higher gold prices and limited availability of duty-free gold for exporters. Gold prices rose 8.27% month-on-month in August to dollar 4,410.89 per ounce.

Cut and polished diamond exports declined 4.93% in value to dollar 924.51 million. However, export volumes increased 3.23% to 13.36 lakh carats from 12.94 lakh carats in August 2025.

Other value-added categories also recorded growth. Polished lab-grown diamond exports rose 28.45% to dollar 125.17 million, while coloured gemstone exports increased 34.40% to dollar 49.07 million. Silver jewellery exports, meanwhile, fell 39.66% to dollar 86.68 million.

GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said the August performance reflected the industry’s growing focus on transforming precious materials into finished jewellery and creating greater value within the domestic manufacturing chain.
