The Swiss watch industry has generated a 16% increase in their exports in 2007, amounting to $15.75 billion over 2006. According to Jacques Duchene, President of the BaselWorld Exhibitors Committee, the Swiss watch industry intends to expand developing markets in this year, as its exports to Russia increased by 57.4% and China by 43%. %% To safeguard this expansion and its intellectual property, The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) has passed an amended law which allows Swiss authorities to take more stringent action against forgeries and imitations. The Swiss watch industry’s exports have shown an increase of 50% over four years. Duchene opines that the industry must watch out for the US crisis.
